From a local newspaper, New Vision An African Soldier Boy A group of missionaries have arrived in Uganda to set up a radio production unit that will produce programs to be played all over the world. RadioActive Productions has initially released a two-song CD as a sign of things to come. "The song on this CD, Soldier Boy, reflects on what the lot of many children in Africa is," says Simon Peterson, who will present much of the productions of the radio. "Many children in Africa and other places get involved in conflict at an early age. This is a common experience so we thought many people would identify with the song." Featuring Titan Takuba, with backing vocals from Andrew Peterson (who wrote and produced the song) and Isaac Jazzin Matovu, the song is about a young boy who has participated in killing people but now wants to give life when he can. "I've killed before I knew what it was to be born. The CD also features a song, Cry of a Continent, written by Peterson and sung by Lillian Kyeyune. There is also a bonus track giving an example of a program, Nu Beat, which the radio will be producing. RadioActive Productions is a project that came together as a result of a meeting of at least four missionaries who had been working in different places. Aaron Scott Ward has been working in West Africa, and witnessed young children committing atrocities. Now they are setting up shop in Uganda, and plan to work mainly with orphanages. "We want to reach as many people as possible, and radio is one of the greatest tools for that." Scott Ward told Vision Weekend. They plan to produce several programs that will be syndicated to radio stations all over the African continent and other places. Based in Ntinda, RadioActive Productions also plans to interview prominent Ugandan personalities who will have something to give to the listening public. |
