Literacy Project
During 2008/09 we generated sponsorship for eleven REAP centers, as well as obtained a ‘Values in Education’ Library for this institution. In addition to this we networked with a company facilitating the adoption of one REAP center which is successfully running today. During this time of collaboration, FSI directly helped more than 300 slum children and raised/donated in sponsorship, funds and educational material worth US $6,330.
New projects are currently underway for 2010, which include setting up pre-schools and developing pre-school teacher training and syllabus. In April the Maharastra government personnel requested that we collaborate with their education department in helping to train teachers for 85,000 Aanganwadis (state run kindergartens).
Kids' Day Out
Children from low income families or those cared for by institutions do not have the same access to educational excursions, outings, sports events and places of cultural significance. Many drop out of school and enter the child labour force or beg. They don’t foresee the long term benefit of education. The uniqueness of this program is the emphasis on inspiring and motivating the children to continue their education by giving them equal opportunities each month of the year.

Through Kids' Day Out we not only inspire the underprivileged, but empower volunteers with a vision and the avenue to "make a difference." While some volunteer programs require extensive training, skill and vocational ability, Kids Day Out is something an adult, teenager or child can easily participate in to change and enhance the quality of life for another.

Special Day for Special Kids
The aims of these events are to bring the light of a smile to the face of a child or youth and to bring courage, training and empowerment to those in need, wheter at a remand home, an orphanage, or an institution for the physically or mentally challenged. We have conducted these events since the inception of our Mumbai project, in 2005. These events are held on a holiday such as Independence Day, Diwali, Holi, Children’s Day, or Christmas. They are programs done by children for children.
