Family Services reports: FCF Project: Family Services India Sponsorship of Cardiac and Burn treatment: We are presently involved in the counseling of patients suffering heart disease, as well as those who have been victim to 50% second and third degree burns. In India, there are a large number of low-income women who become victim to the latter, due to social and family problems. We have been able to help some women by finding sponsors for the needed skin surgery such as skin grafting and plastic surgery, though we are very limited at present in our resources. It costs approximately 50,000 Rs (US $1162) for surgery to save the life of one woman having suffered from these burns. To perform heart surgery here, it costs approximately 65,000 Rs (US $1511). In both cases, we would obtain a letter of confirmation from the hospital performing the operations as well as a letter of appreciation and thanks from the individual sponsored. Most of the individuals we serve in these hospitals receive only a 500 Rs salary per month; this is US $11.60. Therefore as you can imagine it is very difficult for them to afford any of the above mentioned operations. So we appeal to you, if there is anything great or small, which you are able to do, we thank you. We know how much it would mean to these and we assure you it will go a great way in helping save yet another life.
