| Assistance
to Needy Institutions and Individuals
One of the orphanages that we regularly help with food and clothes is
“Orfanato Asuncion”, where
Pictured above is Maria (right) delivering some clothes to the orphans. In the photo at the right, Maria is chatting with Josefina who teaches at the orphanage. Josefina was herself an orphan at this same institute from the age of two, and received her Elementary and Junior High studies. The love she developed for her teachers, virtual foster parents to her, impacted her decision to later decide to return to the institute and dedicate her time to teaching the resident orphans. She herself knows from experience what it’s like to grow up as an orphan and wants to give back the love and attention and opportunities that she received over the years.
We also similarly help out the handicapped at Mother Teresa’s “Misioneros de la Caridad”, and the Hermanos Misioneros mission. The founder of the Hermanos mission, Brother Samuel from Holland, started the mission back in 1988 and they started taking in needy folks and invalids. We are implementing an educational program for the residents, considering that most of them have a child’s mental capacity and aren’t able to read.
Additionally, for holidays like Dïa de Reyes (Kings Day) and so forth, we organize special events with a show and meal for local residents in various areas. The menu is typically chicken and rice and during the course of a day we serve over a thousand plates full to hungry families and children. At the end of such a day all our volunteers are tired, but it’s the happy and satisfied faces of the children and their parents that make this worth it all. There is a saying here that says, “Estomago lleno, corazon contento” (The heart is content when the tummy is full). And with each free meal served comes a warm smile and a knowledge that they are loved, both by God and us.
