Ambulances from SBSI used as Mobile Clinics in Cambodia

Sobbhana, a non-profit organization that provides free medical assistance to people in the outlying provinces, is using the five units donated by SBSI to the Outreach Emergency Service Program (OESP). One of Sobhanna’s missions is to send out ambulances as mobile care units on weekends. Doctors and staff provide everything from medical to dental work to minor surgery.

Three of the ambulances are stationed in Phnom Penh, one in Battambong and one in Banteay Meanchey.

Members of OESP left the States for Phnom Penh to present the first session of Fire & EMS training. This was the first class of a five-year program that will equip, train, and eventually turn over a working system to the people of Cambodia. The group consisted of paramedics Vuthy Roeun and Gary Howe, who tackled the EMS side and Bill Whitney on the fire side of life.

OESP also visited Sihanouk Hospital, a nonprofit hospital run by Hope Worldwide. Vu and Gary are working with Dr. Jun (doc in charge of the ER) to begin the discussions of unifying the hospitals for the common goal of getting the patient triaged and sent to the appropriate facility.

For the fire training, there were 31 students, all Lieutenants, Captains, and one Major. The overall opinion of the students was extremely favorable with respect to the course. General Ma Chhoeun was very impressed with the quality of training.
