Siam Family Services was founded in Thailand in 1996 with the goal of improving the quality of life for children, handicapped and senior citizens. Along side that also includes training of teachers and volunteers to further the quality of life improvement.

Siam Family Services regular helps needy orphanages, rural schools, centers for the physically, mentally and economically disadvantaged, supplying sponsored educational materials, printed books and materials, as well as audio-visual items, and also needed foods, clothing and equipment, as needed.

Siam Family Services also works in training others to help others including conducting seminars for teachers and caregivers and for part-time volunteers as well to help improve the quality of life for as many as possible. SFS is engaged in Christian education, counseling and training for those concerned and interested, with training and courses for various topics relevant to their needs and interests.

Programs undertaken by the Siam Family Services to date include:

Assistance for rural schools and childcare centers

We regularly help poor rural schools, supplying them with needed educational materials, rice and dried foods, as well as clothing. Oftentimes we host inspirational programs that consist of singing and skits to liven things up.

Our mission takes us to many poor rural and border schools, delivering sets of sponsored educational videos, as well as other humanitarian needs such as food and clothes. During the visit, we attempt to find out from the school principals what the area needs are, and formulate a list for future trips. This may range from blankets for a soon coming “cool” season, to mosquito nets, since students are often absent from school due to malaria.

We usually accent our visits with performances for the students of Thai and English songs, as well as skits and activities. Especially in schools near the border, we encounter kids, though born in Thailand, are from refugee families from neighboring countries.any of whose parents are refugees from Burma but whose children were born in Thailand.

Housing and self-supporting micro-enterprise for rural Thai seniors

Steve and Rutchanee communicated with Mr. & Mrs. Intorn in Ban Kay village concerning assisting them with housing. After planning and checking building material and local labor prices, the construction was initiated. Steve personally participated in some of the hands-on work, as well as continued oversight of the building project. Once completed the building included PVC plumbing, a bed, a dining table, cupboards, etc., as well as curtains for the main rooms. In addition a cart, which could be pulled by motorcycle, was obtained, and start up provided for a frog and cricket breeding facility whereby Mr. Intorn can be self-sufficient and support his ill wife into the future. (Thailand has no social security system for the common people.)
