This special meal is not the usual soup-kitchen menu, but a delicious and nutritious all-you-can-eat chicken dinner prepared by three of the city’s top restaurants. We serve up close to one ton of chicken, beans, rice, tortillas and drinks to the multitude of families gathered together for this annual charitable happening.

Local television, covering the event, interviewed a wheelchair-bound beneficiary of a free meal, who was heard to comment: "It is not only the food, or the drinks or the entertainment; it is the love that you feel from these people!" For the members of Proyecto Refugio here in Guadalajara, this comment meant that we are achieving our goal.

Then on January 6th “King's Day”, when toys are traditionally given to Mexican children, we distribute upwards of 30,000 toys to poor children who normally never receive a toy all year long, for either their birthdays or Christmas. It is such a joy to see their expectant little faces light up with a smile of sincere appreciation when receiving their toys, and we feel privileged to be the ones to be able to hand these to them.
