IREX-USAID: PartNERs Family Care Foundation and Zashita
PartNER Newsletter
Funded by USAID, PartNER is the newest stage in the development of Russian-American
partnership projects. By facilitating and strengthening partnerships between
organizations and institutions in the US and Russia, the PartNER program
will benefit the most vulnerable groups of the society--women, youth,
elderly, unemployed, and people with different abilities--who need assistance
to reintegrate successfully into their communities.
In the first round of competitions, IREX selected five partnership projects
for funding over a one-year period These projects combined will pursue
the two main goals of the PartNER program:
1. To spark grassroots initiatives and enable partner organizations to
create positive changes that will contribute to strengthening democratic
society and improving the economic environment; and
2. To strengthen networks and build the capacity of partner organizations,
fostering sustainable partner relationships in the region.
The partners Zashita (Perm) and Family Care Foundation
(San Diego) will create an Adaptation
Center for Teens (ACT) and develop educational materials and curricula
for the course Independent Living and Social Adaptation, which will teach
job skills and life coping strategies to help street children and orphans
function successfully and independently. ACT will use Zashita’s
contacts in the local business community to create internships for those
teenagers that successfully complete the courses. The center will also
provide space for support groups and legal and psychological consultations
for orphans and impoverished families with teenage children.
