Annual Report
Fiscal Year 1997

It is very gratifying to see how far Family Care Foundation (FCF) has come in 1997, our first full year of operation. Our Mission is to enhance the quality of life for all members of the global community, especially those who are poor, suffering, or disadvantaged, and to invest in today’s youth through character-building education and guidance. We are pleased to report to our donors, trustees, project managers, volunteers and friends, that 1997 was truly a year filled with rapid advancement and innovative progress toward achieving those ends.

Our Accomplishments in 1997

FCF received nearly $360,000 in contributions from the public in support of our projects in 1997, from a broad and rapidly growing donor base.

FCF established the Mission Support and Humanitarian Services Program (MSHSP). Under this program FCF supported over 20 different ministries, programs, and humanitarian projects in nine countries. This program allows missionary and other full-time charitable projects around the world to work under the umbrella of the Foundation. Through our partnership, FCF is able to rapidly expand and enhance its capability to achieve its charitable goals. The individual projects benefit from the administrational and fiscal oversight, professional management and stewardship provided by FCF’s status as a 501(c)(3) organization. Plus our donors benefit from an increased menu of opportunities for charitable giving.

The Mission Support and Humanitarian Services Program will be expanded to over 60 such projects by the end of the first half of 1998. Additional increases to a total of 150 such projects are anticipated by the second half of 1998.

FCF made almost $75,000 worth of grants and charitable distributions in 1997 in cash and gifts in kind. From funds raised in 1997, FCF has already made specific commitments to distribute an additional $125,000 in grants in 1998. This is in addition to distributions and grants that will be made with funds raised and revenues earned in 1998.

FCF established a Family Education Program. It is designed to provide knowledge and character-building education and guidance for our youth, the leaders of tomorrow, to help strengthen them, their parents, and their communities.

FCF was able to license the worldwide distribution and broadcast rights to three children’s educational video series, "Treasure Attic," "Fantastic Friends," and "Kiddie Viddie," as well as a stand-alone documentary entitled "Countdown to Armageddon." The fee-for-service distribution and broadcast of these videos, rich in family values and Christian principles, is a valuable component of our Family Education Program.

Negotiations are underway for various sponsorship, broadcast and distribution agreements for the videos in the United States, as well as possibilities for the same being explored abroad. These children’s shows are being offered to a number of U.S. networks. We have also had representation at two major international television broadcasters’ conventions, from which we expect to generate international interest.

FCF established a Personal Development Publications Program. This program’s first success was the printing and free distribution of 20,000 of each of two booklets, "Glimpses of Heaven" and "The Future Foretold." Drawing on a number of sources and authors, "Glimpses of Heaven" is a unique, thought-provoking and uplifting collection of anecdotes, reflections, literary quotations and verse that ponder what wonders await us in the next life. "The Future Foretold" is a fascinating comparison of current events, statistics, and facts, vis-a-vis ancient biblical predictions.

FCF produced a two-hour video on fundraising tips and techniques featuring Patrick Flack, that was made available as a development tool early in 1998 to projects operating under our Mission Support and Humanitarian Services Program, or to those contemplating applying for inclusion in this program.

Our Vision and Goals for 1998

To significantly expand funding for an increased number of projects operating under the Mission Support and Humanitarian Services Program. By the end of 1998 the MSHSP aims to raise $1.5 million for a target of 150 separate ongoing projects.

To expand our Family Education Program by achieving the mass distribution and broadcast of the exempt-purpose video material we have licensed. In addition to the negotiations with larger distributors begun in 1997, FCF plans to develop a network of smaller distributors and agents throughout the world to achieve maximum exposure for the very positive and wholesome character-building content of these videos.

To develop a program for the direct distribution to the public of the videos on a fee-for-service basis. The program will target families, schools, and daycare centers. FCF will offer organizations and individuals that are concerned for the needs of children and families the opportunity to subsidize distribution in low-income areas.

To address a wider range of the public’s spiritual and emotional needs by publishing more material on a variety of topics under our Personal Development Publications Program.

To develop an endowment. We hope to solidify our financial base and to further establish ourselves as a credible and permanent fixture in the field of Missions and Humanitarian Services by setting up an FCF Endowment Fund.

To continue to involve people (as donors, volunteers, project managers, and Trustees) who care about the issues addressed by FCF’s Mission, and to continue to develop diversity in our projects and grants, and among our donors, volunteers, project managers and Trustees. We aim to attract an ever-increasing circle of diverse individuals and organizations that support and benefit from the work of FCF.

Working Together to Achieve Our Mission

FCF’s financial health is an important ingredient in achieving our mission. The FCF Balance Sheet and Statement of Revenues, Expenses, and Changes in Fund Balances for fiscal Year 1997 are included in this report. We will work hard to build an even stronger financial base for the Foundation in 1998, so that we can indeed realize our hopes and dreams for the future.

FCF is an innovative organization in a unique position. We are not a private foundation but rather 501(c)(3) grantmaking public charity, working in a special partnership with donors, projects, and volunteers from around the world. We are working together to achieve our mission of meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of all members of the community and to create a stable, peaceful environment in which children and families can flourish.

Thank you very much for being a partner with us in our past progress to this end, and for your continued participation in the many accomplishments to come in the months and years ahead. It is an honor and blessing for us here at FCF to be associated with such fine, caring people as all of you, our donors, project managers, volunteers, friends and associates everywhere.
