Annual Report We are pleased to report to the donors, trustees, project managers, volunteers, and friends of Family Care Foundation, that 1998, our second full year of operations, was again distinguished by tremendous advances and substantial progress towards fulfilling our exempt purpose goals: To enhance the quality of life for all members of the global community and to invest in the leaders of tomorrow todays youth through character building education and guidance. Our Accomplishments in 1998 FCF continued to receive substantial public support from a large and ever-increasing donor base. In 1998 Family Care Foundation received approximately $350,000 in contributions, revenue, and gifts in kind from the public, in support of our projects. The number of donors to FCF increased by almost 500% in 1998 as compared to 1997! This includes contributions and grants from individuals, small businesses, large corporations, and foundations. FCF made close to $270,000 worth of grants and charitable distributions in 1998 in cash and gifts in kind. This is a 350% increase over charitable distributions made by FCF in 1997. One of our most important goals of 1998, as stated in our annual report of 1997, was to significantly expand funding for an increased number of projects operating under the Mission Support and Humanitarian Services Program (MSHSP). This goal has been achieved and the three-way partnership between the foundation, our donors, and the projects in the field has been strengthened, enhanced and greatly expanded. The end result is that many more lives are being touched in a deep and meaningful way. At the end of 1997 approximately 20 different ministries, programs and humanitarian projects in nine countries were operating under the MSHSP. By the end of 1998 these totals had increased to over 120 separate independent projects in over 35 countries around the world a phenomenal six-fold increase. Solid progress was made in the distribution and broadcast of the childrens educational video series licensed by Family Care Foundation. The Treasure Attic series was broadcast on the Prime Star Network in the U.S. during the summer of 1998 and is presently being broadcast on the Dominion Sky Angel Network, also carried by the Dish Network in the USA.
Worldwide, the videos are being distributed through various channels in six countries, reaching parents, teachers, and most importantly, the children themselves, with the important life skills, training and moral education imparted to them by the uplifting and fast-moving presentation of the Treasure Attic show. Additionally, several other broadcast and distribution deals are in various stages of negotiation, and we expect 1999 to be a year of further progress in this aspect of our Family Education Program. We have heard from our distributors that the distribution of the Countdown to Armageddon documentary in U.S. and Canadian retail outlets has been brisk. The demand for this very insightful and eye-opening film is gratifying indeed. In 1998 Family Care Foundation was recognized by a number of agencies who specialize in the evaluation of childrens educational material: Kids First!, an agency of the Coalition for Quality Childrens Media, of which FCF is a member, has endorsed titles from all three of our childrens video series. The Dove Foundation has also endorsed these video series, as well as the documentary Countdown to Armageddon. Other honors bestowed on Family Care Foundation projects include the prestigious Freedom Works Award, sponsored by House Majority Leader Dick Armey, which was given to the Washington D.C. based FCF project, Family Missions. This award is given annually to "the most active service group in the country motivated by personal commitment and desire to make the world a better place rather than personal gain or government funding." Our Vision and Goals for 1999 To continue to significantly expand funding for an increased number of projects operating under the Mission Support and Humanitarian Services Program. Family Care Foundation is in the process of registering with the U.S. Agency for International Development (U.S. Aid). This partnership with U.S. Aid will significantly expand the capability of our foreign charitable projects to have an even greater impact. To continue to expand our Family Education Program through sponsoring individual family education projects, as well as increasing the mass distribution and broadcast of the exempt purpose video material we have licensed. To develop a program for the public distribution of these videos on a fee-for-service basis. The program will target families, schools and day-care centers. Family Care Foundation would like to offer organizations and individuals who are concerned for the needs of children and families the opportunity to subsidize distribution in low-income areas. The wonderful reception and response we have received from such a large segment of the public is very encouraging.
A very important goal of 1999 is to continue to involve people such as yourselves who care about the issues addressed in our mission. We want to continue to be responsive to the needs of those with whom we are in contact, and be ready to adapt in whatever ways are necessary to meet the ever-changing needs before us. 1998 has seen Family Care Foundation attract an ever-increasing circle of diverse individuals and organizations that support and benefit from our work. We aim to continue and enhance this trend in 1999.
