Balkans Relief, Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina

Balkans Relief Mission was initiated during the Yugoslavian War with the purpose of providing emotional solace and material aid to children and families in refugee camps, military hospitals and children's centers in Croatia and Slovenia. Their work later embraced Bosnia and continues with the following activities:

  • Drug awareness and prevention programs conducted in schools, in conjunction with the Bosnian Red Cross, to address the problem of drug abuse amongst youth in the aftermath of the civil war.
  • Post war trauma therapy and mine awareness programs administered in conjunction with SFOR and UN police.
  • Musical concerts to boost morale of the peacekeeping troops stationed in Bosnia.
  • Vocational activities to strengthen an educational system left weakened as a result of the war.
In a recent development Balkan Relief project managers report:“Collaborating with P'tit Coups de Mains from France, we were able to install computers at three primary schools and one high school in the Breza municipality. Additional computers were also installed at the Red Cross center allowing us to expand our vocational project there, of basic computer knowledge and skills.”
