Family International Volunteer Services, (FIVS) Brezovica-Zagreb, Croatia
Like its neighboring project featured above, FIVS became involved in Croatia in the immediate aftermath of the Yugoslavian War, procuring and delivering aid to local refugee camps, orphanages, hospitals, schools, and centers for underprivileged and handicapped children. This includes food and clothing, school supplies and computer hardware.
FIVS also undertakes community development projects such as building playgrounds in former war zones. (See photo to right.) Another program distributes prosthetic limbs to needy individuals in Bosnia and Herzegovina where land mines have taken their destructive and debilitating toll.
FIVS also participates in Project Breza, helping to train partially handicapped youth between the ages of 18-22, in home life skills and vocational training. Their current push is to raise the funding needed to begin work on a facility for the boys of the Breza Youth Association.
