Polio Child Relief Mumbai, Mumbai (Bombay), India
Project Manager Josef Suess of Polio Child Relief (PCR) are working to better the life of polio victims in the Mumbai (Bombay) area, along with Doctor Paresh Desai of Shradda Hospital. Dr. Desai is a renowned specialist in correctional surgery of deformities, and since 1997 has successfully treated more than 400 Bombay area children, in a country where polio still claims many thousands of victims.
The first step in the Polio Child Relief process is that PCR volunteers visit slum areas to locate children in need of this correctional surgery. Free transportation is arranged, without which these folks would not be able to participate, and the children are then admitted to Shradda Hospital, where they receive a free examination and surgery from Dr. Desai. Complimentary follow-up care is also provided, as is counsel for the patient's family. Additionally, Polio Child Relief Mumbai is also involved in finding sponsors to cover the cost of further operations and expenses in hardship cases.
