Accao Voluntario em Mocambique (AVM) was dedicated to helping the neglected and abused street children of Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique. AVM attempted to improve the quality of life for these young people with programs that housed, fed, educated, and offered comfort, stability and hope. Most of their clients were either orphans or victims of extreme poverty that made it impossible for their parent(s) to care for them any longer.
AVM staff also taught English as a second language to handicapped adults and children, thereby increasing the opportunities available to them. Other AVM programs focused on family, health and prenatal-care issues.
