- The Nepal Disabled Association School
Working with the Nepal Disabled Association School is one of the first projects that Family Volunteer Services of Nepal (FVS) became involved with, back in 1995.
This locally run school is Nepal’s first facility for the physically challenged, and with heavily subsidized rates is still often the only one open to Kathmandu’s underprivileged.
Over the years, the Family Volunteers have provided weekly English, health and hygiene classes to the 130 students that attend classes 1—10.
In addition, we are grateful to have been able to help this needy cener in other ways, such as through classroom clean-ups and painting jobs, donating books, blackboards, and teaching materials, snacks and other items for special events.
Though many of the children are hampered by severe challenges and negative home life and environments, as well as unique physical problems and learning disabilities, even the slightest progress is an encouraging sign and worth all the effort.
This year alone, all of the 16 students who took their SLC exams(local school leaving certificates when finishing class 10) passed!
