Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini is an educational program initiated by the Indonesian Department of Education with the goal of encouraging opportunities for children from marginalized families to receive basic schooling before grade school. Although the concept is promoted by the Education department, unfortunately it lacks in funding for teachers, or books or educational toys and related materials.
To help meet this need, Yayasan Cakrawala Masa Depan (YCMD) produced a set of local-language teaching aids, the STEPS Character Building curriculum. Since YCMD has been involved with educational programs in various areas of the country, the enthusiasm for this product amongst teachers is highly welcomed. Our program of placing the STEPS program in schools throughout the country promotes education in outlying communities while providing quality materials for teachers and parents.
Through a grant from Family Care Foundation, Yayasan Cakrawala Masa Depan completed the translation and printing of 3000 sets of this character-building product, STEPS. Upon completion, the Indonesian government and education departments began a campaign emphasizing the need for character building in education, as well as in the home. YCMD was invited to showcase STEPS at a large book fair where the main guest speakers all hit on various aspects of that crucial subject character building.
A number of people in the field of education and in more secular positions expressed interest in helping to facilitate the distribution of STEPS to a larger audience. To quote one of Indonesia’s top educators, “The problem is clear, but there are few materials that offer a clear description of the solution. Your STEPS supplies a very basic, easily usable and clear presentation of the solutions.” So we are thankful to be able to help fill a gap in the country for usable material for teachers and parents.
In order to make STEPS available to the widest possible audience, we seek sponsorships of like-minded individuals and businesses. YCMD volunteers organize the distribution of the STEPS curriculum throughout Indonesia while also providing seminars on how to best use this material.
