Balkans Relief Mission Albania makes regular visits to pediatric wards at the main hospitals in Tirana and Durres. The program often includes lively animation and offers personal encouragement and comfort to young cancer patients and their parents.
The conditions at these hospitals, as with all public hospitals in Albania, are extremely poor and it is difficult for children who have to stay for extended periods of time for treatment. Many of the families come from rural areas far away from the main city hospitals and it is expensive and difficult for them to be with their children and separated from the rest of their families.
BRM staff and volunteers offer something that money cannot buy: hope and encouragement, to nurture the spirit and foster healing. Animated clown shows and colorful gifts cheer up the young patients and provide some relief for the concerned parents as well as medical staff.
