Located in the rural area of Sobradinho, one of the half-dozen satellite cities of the capital, Brasília, “Lar Menino Jesus”* is a home for 24 children, ages 6 months to 17 years old. These children were either removed from abusive homes by a court order, or were abandoned by their parents.
Fazendo do Mundo Um Lugar Melhor (FMULM) has been providing regular assistance to the center since 2009, supplying donated baked goods, shoes, clothing and educational materials as well as organizing special events and performances for the children. Most of all, FMULM strives to provide what these children need the most: love and moral support.
FMULM’s children’s show troupe, which performs all over the city, makes regular appearances at the “Lar Menino Jesus” Home to bring joy and cheer to the children.
During one Easter break, a group of FMULM staff hosted an Easter celebration at the “Lar Menino Jesus” Home. The fun included games, children’s performances, snacks and a special meal. As a surprise at the end, the children received treats and chocolate Easter eggs, complementing a truly memorable occasion for all!
The Christmas vacation period is the hottest time of the year in Brazil, and the orphan children are often invited to enjoy the FMULM facilities, which include a playground, soccer field, and tennis and volleyball courts. The biggest highlight for the kids is always swimming in the pool –a rare treat for these kids who don’t usually have access to a pool!
